A few weeks ago we wanted to have a coffee with something sweet but our usual spot in Chueca Mama Framboise was packed. I remembered walking by a great looking bakery around the corner named Celicioso on Calle del Barquillo. It’s actually a gluten free, celiac friendly place but if a cake looks great I am all for it gluten free or not.
Celicioso is actually part of the boutique hotel Only You which I discovered on this occasion. The decor is quite striking and I love how the navy and white color palette is carried consistently through the hotel. Many structural old elements were kept and/or added and typical Spanish elements such as the tiles added. The two building patios which are typically dark features of Madrid’s buildings were closed off with glass ceiling and are now light filled spaces one being the reception and the other a cozy lounge.
The result is contemporary and graphic and a perfect example of why original elements should always be preserved, if possible, during a renovation process. They are the ones that can’t be replaced and that ultimately will give a space its personality.
