Sneak peek into the creative process

I often get asked how I create color schemes for clients.

In most cases the belongings of my clients like an antique carpet, a beautiful piece of furniture, or a painting/art collection will be the starting point to establishing a color scheme. Sometimes, however, the project entails creating everything from scratch when a house is built for example.

In this case I often ask my clients for inspiration pictures whose colors they like. Those pictures don’t need to be interiors related and I actually find it better when they are not as it leaves more freedom for the creative process and pushes me to explore different styles.

Here is an example of a beautiful picture taken some months ago. We had the chance to live next to one the most gorgeous squares in Berlin for the past three and a half years and I am ashamed to say that it’s almost the time it took me to discover that at the top of the stairs of the Gendarmenmarkt’s Konzerthaus was a ceiling whose colors I immediately fell in love with and knew would be fantastic transposed for interiors.

The inspiration pictures below show you how the extracted color scheme of 5 colors can be used to create interiors as individual as their owners.

  • Thanks for sharing your process of creating a color scheme, Corinne. I love it and in fact this was exactly the scheme I used in my bedroom in the home I sold in DC. It aways felt so perfect. Nicely done.ReplyCancel
