2 Flower Girls June Edition: Peonies

Hello dear readers. I hope you had a lovely weekend. It’s already Tuesday, the sun is shining here in Belgium and the day is already very warm. My little one turns two months old today, time really does fly. I am very happy to show you my submission for the June edition of 2 flower girls which you must know by now is organized every month by Elodie and Inga. My submission for last month was extremely late but this time I am right on time posting my pictures. This month’s flower to style were peonies. I loved last month’s Hortensia pictures taken by Katarina and their dark background. You can see them here and while you are there browse some of her recipes. Taking pictures with a dark background was a really interesting exercise and I had to review all the manual camera settings I usually use when shooting.

I arranged the flowers in a beautiful vase I found in a consignment store and used the top of my art deco buffet, which you can see here, to take the pictures. As you know I love thrift shopping. One of the reasons behind it, is that I love finding objects that tell a story in a way or another. In this case you can see that my lovely vase has an inscription underneath that says “En souvenir de votre “Grande Fille” février 1947″ which means “in memory of your daughter”. In this case “grande” can mean either old or tall, for me it could even say that the person who gave the vase was more of a symbolic daughter rather than the child of the recipient. This inscription makes this vase so much more special to me.

I love the way the pictures turned out. I had loads of fun taking them yesterday, some of them with my baby in one arm and the camera in the other hand.

Can’t wait to see all the other entries. Have a lovely day!

  • Dear Corinne,
I love your pictures! I am with you, I think that the person who gave the vase was a symbolic daughter of the recipient. I really love the way the peonies reflect on your buffet and your black background is just perfect. How did you manage it? A piece of fabric? Sometimes a photo shooting can looks magical! A very Flemish styling I think.

    • Merci beaucoup Elodie. Hmmm Flemish? Could it be that I am influenced by my host country? 🙂
To Elodie and Cyndi: Actually the black background is just a very large sheet of black paper taped to the mirror. I still have loads of large sized Canson paper sheets in various color. I normally use them for picture framing but since I haven’t done any in a long time, I am finding them a new purpose.ReplyCancel

  • I’m with Elodie – I’d love to know your technique. Just stunning! I skipped over to refresh my memory of your buffet and couldn’t take eyes off those chairs as well.ReplyCancel

  • Hello Corinne! Your dark background technique is just stunning! And the vase is absolutely lovely… Oh gosh, now i have to try and figure out how to take pictures with a dark background like that 🙂 Kind regards from Champagne, LaetitiaReplyCancel

  • Merci beaucoup Laetitia. Actually the dark background was a first for me as well. Afterwards I just had to fiddle around with my camera settings, as my usual settings made the colors look completely wrong. I am kind of proud of how they turned out. Quite dramatic in fact. Have a lovely evening in Champagne.ReplyCancel
