18th Century inspired cushions

I was shopping the other day and stumbled upon those great cushions and matching roll. They had me immediately transported to the 18th century with their silk-like appearance and great stripes. Believe it or not those beauties are from Zara Home and range in price between 10 and 39 Euros. Another proof that nice doesn’t have to be expensive

This immediately prompted me to search for some 18th century inspiration:

  • Fist a portrait of Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of King Louis XV, by François Boucher, Do you notice the striped cushion and yellow sofa she reclines on?
  • followed by pictures of two sofas and a marquise chair crafted by Georges Jacob, the most regarded furniture maker of the French 18th century and who epitomizes the Louis XVI style.

For those of you who would like to add something similar to their homes without splurging at Christie’s, here are some beautiful reproductions.

Check out Massant‘s Louis XVI sofa and Gilles Nouailhac Marly armchair. Isn’t this orange silk amazing? It doesn’t have anything to envy in vibrancy to the colors of the fabrics used on the antic pieces shown above. Both can be customized with different wood finishes and fabrics. You can contact me for further details.
